This week on The Mommy Labor Nurse Podcast I have Jordan joining me to talk about her birth story! Jordan is a black woman & first-time mom who had a fairly uneventful pregnancy, but unfortunately dealt with some traumatic events that occurred during the birth of her son.
Jordan tells me in the episode that while pregnant, she had educated herself about the racial disparities that unfortunately exist here in the US and she felt informed and prepared going into her birth. She never really thought she would actually be treated differently because of the way that she looked.
And, while she can’t say for sure that her ill-treatment was 100% race-based, it still happened, and trauma like this isn’t something that ANYONE should have to deal with – regardless of race, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or anything else.
I think stories like these are so important to shed light on, and I’m so happy to share Jordan’s today.
About Jordan
Jordan is a working mama who lives in Ohio with her husband Chris, son Noah, and their two cats Sebastian and Grady. She loves coffee, concerts, and spending weekends with family.
While in labor, she had multiple hospital staff members treat her poorly. After Noah was born, she became an exclusive pumper after he wouldn’t latch. She successfully fed him breastmilk from a bottle for over 7 months. At about 4 months postpartum she started battling postpartum depression and anxiety.
Jordan wanted to share her story because she hopes that she can help others who might find themselves in similar circumstances.
