In this episode of The Mommy Labor Nurse Podcast, Sami shares her birth story where she tried a well-known, and semi-controversial method to kickstart labor! I have never actually talked to anyone who has tried this before so it was very interesting to hear about her experience!

Sami is a fellow labor and delivery nurse who currently works in a small hospital in Ohio. She cares for patients in L&D and postpartum, and even cares for newborns, too.

Today, we will hear about her second birth story with her son, Eli. When she was pregnant with her daughter, she tried a bunch of things to jump-start labor, but ultimately ended up being induced.

But for her son, she thought she’d try the same things plus one other method that we will talk about today. So stay tuned to see if it worked!

Next week’s episode is about membrane sweeps and cervical checks. We will dive deep into how they are done, how to handle them, and the general pros and cons during pregnancy and labor.

So keep an eye out if you’re interested in the topic!

Questions covered in this episode:

  • How was your first pregnancy?
  • What methods did you try to start labor? How did it go?
  • How was your second pregnancy?
  • What methods did you try to start labor this time around?
  • How long did it take for the midwives’ brew to work?
