🎾🌟 Back labor is the WORST! ⁣😩🤰💆‍♀️⁣
⁣
But one thing that can help is counterpressure! ⁣
⁣
To do it - you’ll need to get your support person involved because teamwork makes the dream work! 🙌✨⁣
⁣
Applying constant, steady pressure to the sides of your hips can not only help with pain, but it can also fan out your hips and open your pelvis.⁣
⁣
This can allow baby to wiggle down a little further and help dilate your cervix!⁣⁣ 🤙🏻🤙🏻⁣
⁣
The thing is - keeping that constant pressure can be kind of tough...but a tennis ball can help!! 😄⁣
⁣
Soooo...who’s packing a tennis ball in their hospital bag?? 🎾

Turtle Breathing! 🐢

It’s easy! The 🔑 is:

👉 You want to exhale as long as you possibly can. AS SLOW AS A TURTLE. Until you can’t do anything BUT inhale.

Some people focus too much on the inhale, and they get really inhale-y, and tense in their shoulders.

With turtle breathing, ONLY focus on that EXHALE! 🌬️

This slows your breathing waaaaaay down… which allows you to feel much more in control of your breath, your body, and your birth ❤️

Cutting baby’s nails can be tricky (and scary)!

💅 Here are a few tips to make you (and your baby) feel better about nail cutting time:

👶 Sit baby facing away from you, so the angle is the same as if you were cutting your own nails.

👶 Find the option that works for you! If you’re not comfortable with a clipper, buffers are a great alternative!

👶 Do it while they are sleeping. It will be a much easier task for you if baby is relaxed and calm. Enlisting the help of your partner also may help!

👶 Hold your baby’s finger and press the fingertip pad down and away from the nail.

👶 Follow the natural curve of the fingernail, making sure you don’t clip too low.

❌ It is not recommended to bite baby’s nails! It’s easier to rip the nails too short when biting.

Travel tips to help you feel your best while flying during pregnancy! 👇

✈️ Stay hydrated - I know that whenever I fly, pregnant or not, I get super dehydrated. Embrace the fact that you are going to have to pee a lot and overcompensate. You will feel so much better and energized by upping your water intake while traveling.

✈️ Book an aisle seat if possible - It is recommended to take walking and stretching breaks every hour while flying. This helps prevent blood from pooling and can reduce swelling, which is a common complaint of many pregnant women who fly.

✈️ Wear compression socks - They help with swelling & can prevent deep vein thrombosis!

✈️ Take precautions against gas pains - Yes, this is a thing you should have on your radar! Avoid foods & drinks that can cause gas for you, and bring some gas medication just in case you need it on the flight.

Are you planning any fun trips before baby arrives?? Where to?! 👇

❗3 things that I would have done differently in my own labor!

👉 Resting more in early labor - Labor may take DAYS. Resting early on will help you to conserve energy for when active & transitional labor hits. The latter parts of labor aren’t so easy to rest through...so I always say rest as MUCH as you possibly can! It’s going to help in the long run!

👉 Relaxing - Stay as relaxed as possible! Your baby has to pass through your pelvic floor, which is made up of a lot of muscles. Pain typically causes your muscles to tense up, so focusing on relaxing your body with contractions, instead of tensing up can seriously speed things up.

👉 Covering up the clock on the wall - I couldn’t stop looking at the clock and wondering things like, “How much longer is this going to take?!” This leads to stress, which is bad news for labor. Covering the clock is an intervention to help you focus LESS on the time length, and MORE on getting through labor & meeting your baby.

Did you know that when you’re pregnant, a part of your baby stays with you for the rest of your life?

Science has recently discovered that the moment you become pregnant, there are many cells from the baby that remain in your body, and some of these living cells even remain with you for the rest of your life. Even if you have a miscarriage. This phenomenon is known as fetal microchimerism.

Science has also discovered that YOUR cells are also exchanged with your children and remain with them for life.

This concept of fetal microchimerism serves as a gentle reminder of the bond you share with your baby, no matter how brief.

Your body is a living testament to the love and connection you experienced during pregnancy, leaving a lasting mark that goes beyond time. ❤️
Snaaaacks! 🍌🥨

Depending on your situation, food consumption MAY be restricted at some point during labor...let’s say if you are induced, get an epidural, are high-risk, etc.

But, if you’re low-risk, laboring on your own, don’t have an epidural, and are HUNGRY...break open that hospital bag and grab a snack!

Birth can be intense, long, and exhausting. ⁣⁣And eating light foods throughout (as long as you can stomach them) will help you to feel more energized through your labor!⁣⁣

Here are some great options:

▪️Honey sticks
▪️Granola bars
▪️Gum
▪️Coconut water
▪️Hard candy
▪️Apple sauce packs
▪️Fresh fruit

Did you eat at all during your labor? Give another mama some advice about good labor snacks!! 🥨⁣⁣

🤰Chafe during pregnancy? Ain’t nobody got time for that! 😅✋⁣
⁣
We’ve got some lifesaving tips to keep your thighs happy and chafe-free this summer 🎉✨⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Deodorant, Lume Invisible Cream, or baby powder: your secret weapon against thigh chafing! A quick swipe and you’re good to go ⁣
⁣
2️⃣ Biker shorts to the rescue! Say goodbye to that dreaded chub rub. Swap your regular shorts for biker shorts, or put them on under your dress! Let them be your pregnancy superhero 🚴‍♀️🩲⁣
⁣
3️⃣ Do your best to stay cool! Channel your inner diva and prop yourself up in front of a fan or simply stay in the AC! This will eliminate unnecessary sweat-induced chafing. Ahh, sweet relief! 💁‍♀️❄️⁣
⁣
If chafing strikes despite your best efforts, here’s what to do:⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Zinc oxide is your overnight savior! Slather on some of this magical healing potion before hitting the sheets, and wake up to a fresher you. Bye, bye chafing 👋🏻⁣
⁣
2️⃣ Loose-fitted clothing for the win! Give your skin some room to breathe and recover while you sleep 😴💕⁣
⁣
3️⃣ When in doubt, reach for the trusty Vaseline! This multi-purpose wonder has your back, front, and every nook and cranny in between ✨💧⁣
⁣
And remember, if you just want to sit in front of a fan with your legs wide open - we’re not judging 😆⁣
